Most photographs on this site are our own. The ones that are not are listed here with their author, their licence and the page they came from.

Photographs that are not ours
Most of the photographs on this site were taken by us. For destinations we have not photographed yet, we use images published under free licences, and every one of them is listed below with the name of the photographer, the licence the photographer chose and the address of the original file.
The credit also appears in small type under each photograph on the page where it is used. This page exists because some of these licences ask for the address of the licence itself, and that address belongs here rather than in the middle of an article.
If you are the author of one of these photographs and something in this list is wrong, we want to correct it.

How we choose them
A free licence is not enough on its own. The subject has to be verifiably the place the article is about, which is why we use sources where each file carries its own location and category. A generic photograph with a confident caption is the easiest way to publish something false, and that matters more to us than the licence does.
