Jardim Ecopark, Jardim MS: a river swim on the Rio da Prata road

Jardim Ecopark sits in the municipality of Jardim, on the same road as the Rio da Prata and the Buraco das Araras. It is the swimming stop that rounds off a full day in that direction, without driving back to Bonito in between.

What Jardim Ecopark is

Jardim Ecopark is a river leisure area in the municipality of Jardim, next to Bonito. It has a swimming area, support facilities and room to spend the afternoon — a simple day-use format with no circuit of activities.

The strongest argument for it is geographic. The most visited attractions in Jardim — the Rio da Prata, the Buraco das Araras and the Lagoa Misteriosa — are in the same direction, and a well-planned day on that route usually leaves time to spare in the afternoon. Driving back to Bonito only to set out again wastes road.

Understanding the Jardim route

It pays to understand the map before planning. Bonito has the hotels and the tour desks, but three of the most sought-after attractions in the region are in the neighbouring municipality of Jardim, in the same direction and at similar distances.

Visitors who do not know that end up scheduling one Jardim attraction per day and driving the same road three times. Those who do know group them into one day and gain two free half-days for the rest of the trip.

How to fit it into the day

  • Morning: the Rio da Prata float, at its fixed time.
  • Midday: lunch on the route, without returning to Bonito.
  • Afternoon: the Buraco das Araras or the Lagoa Misteriosa.
  • Late afternoon: a free swim at Jardim Ecopark before heading back.

What to expect from a simple day-use site

A river beach is not a water park. The proposition is swimming, shade and rest, with basic support facilities. Anyone arriving expecting slides and a programme will be disappointed; anyone arriving after a morning of snorkelling wanting cool water with no schedule will be pleased.

When to go

It is a hot-weather stop: from October to March it is worth much more. In winter the cool water cuts swimming time and the stop loses part of its purpose. Heavy rain can restrict the bathing area.

What to bring

  • Swimwear on under your clothes, so the stop costs you no time on arrival.
  • A dry change and a towel for the drive back.
  • Footwear that can get wet and still grips on a wet bank.
  • Sunscreen applied before you reach the water, and repellent for the end of the afternoon.
  • Your own shade if you arrive late: the best spots along the bank go first.

Everything beyond that depends on what the site has open on the day. It is worth checking whether food and drink are being served before you count on them, because a lean day-use place is exactly the kind of site where that changes with the season and with the size of the crowd.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth going just for this?

On its own it does not justify the drive. Combined with an attraction on the same route, it does.
